Torch is currently looking to fill the following position:
Senior Open Architectures Systems Engineer
This position supports the Air Force Research Laboratory, Munitions Directorate Capability Concept Integration and management (AFRL/RWPI) Branch and is resident at Eglin AFB, Florida. The successful candidate shall advise and assist with the implementation of systems engineering principles in concept design, development, integration and test support for a weapon program within the RWPI portfolio. Special emphasis and attention will be given to the Open System Architecture (OSA) aspects of the various tasks. These include:
a. Provide support to the program office in the areas of OSAs, standard interfaces, and modular designs. Perform system and subsystem studies regarding OSA and modular design requirements, capabilities and deliverables.
b. Support the program office in the administration of program responsibilities associated with implementation of the Universal Armament Interface (UAI), the GBU-X Interface Control Document,
Open Mission System (OMS) and other open architecture activities.
c. Develop program documentation such as cost analyses, acquisition strategies, system requirements/specifications, contract Statements of Objectives and specifications, risk analyses, systems engineering plans, technical design concepts, test plans and methods, and operational employment concepts.
d. Review contractor and subcontractor documentation (system requirements, functional descriptions, drawings, test plans and procedures, architecture design documents and compliance plans, etc.), identify potential problem areas and recommend solutions.
e. Review hardware and software specifications for completeness and requirements traceability. Review hardware and software development plans, quality plans, and design documents to evaluate conformance with applicable standards and requirements. Review program contractor or subcontractor interface specifications, drawings, and design documents to assess functional, signal, electrical and physical interfaces.
f. Review government and contractor test plans and procedures to evaluate completeness, requirements traceability and compliance with the system requirements, note technical risks and recommend risk mitigation strategies. Coordinate and observe testing at contractor and Government facilities and ranges, including technical reviews and coordination with program contractors for testing at DoD facilities. Provide data reduction and analysis support to evaluate contractor compliance with requirements. Review test reports for accuracy and completeness.
g. Develop and present program briefing slides, letters and reports. Assist and participate in technical working groups, technical reviews, design reviews, and technical interchange meetings.
Attend meetings and transmit recommendations on technical matters and decisions.
A Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field plus 10 years of relevant experience is required. A Master’s Degree is desired. In-depth knowledge of and experience with open systems architectures and interfaces is required. Familiarity with systems engineering policies, procedures, methodologies, technical approaches, design analyses, risk analyses, and risk planning related to the development of weapon systems is required. An understanding of sound engineering principles, including Systems Engineering Plans, Systems Engineering Assessment Assessment Models, assurance of traceability and feasibility of analyses and test plans is required. Familiarity and experience with DoD conventional munitions acquisition programs is highly desired.
Applicants must have highly developed interpersonal skills to interact with senior levels of government and senior management of industry prime contractors. Experience using MS Office applications is highly desired. Applicants must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
This position requires that candidates have a current TOP SECRET security clearance in order to access classified information. Initial entry with SECRET clearance is acceptable, as long as the candidate can meet the requirements for a TOP SECRET clearance.
