Torch is currently seeking to hire the following position:
This position supports the Air Force Research Laboratory, Munitions Directorate Weapon Seeker Sciences Branch (AFRL/RWWS) and is resident at Eglin AFB, Florida. The successful candidate will provide advice and assistance in Active Electro-Optical (EO) and Infrared (IR) seeker/sensor phenomenology for the design, development, and testing of new seeker technology under programs being conducted by AFRL/RWWS.
The successful candidate will advise and assist in providing optics support for research and development of next generation passive and active electro-optic seeker sensors and related technologies. Knowledge of relevant sensor technologies include visible through long wave passive sensors technologies, laser designators, laser detection and ranging (LADAR), laser technology, and light-matter interactions. This support will include:
a. Support in-house basic research in terms of design, execution, and analysis of experiments. Employ physics based models to explore interaction of light and matter, radiometric analysis, and laser and nonlinear optical phenomena. Assist in technical planning, execution, and reporting on in-house basic research involving emerging passive and active electro-optic, infrared, laser, and LADAR research and development at the AFRL/RWWS Seeker Technology Research and Evaluation Facility (STRAEF).
b. Observing program contractor and subcontractor technical efforts, to include definition of requirements, optical design, hardware and software design, and testing, identifying potential problem areas and recommending solutions.
c. Developing technical requirements, preparation of specifications, preparation of Statements of Objectives (SOO), preparation of Statements of Work (SOW), preparation of Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) proposals, and preparation of test requirements.
d. Reviewing program contractor and subcontractor derived requirements, detailed system requirements, drawings, and hardware and software specifications for completeness and traceability.
e. Reviewing contractor and subcontractor test plans, procedures and schedules to evaluate completeness and compliance with test requirements. Advising and assisting in data reduction and analysis to expand and evaluate contractor test results, and reviewing test results for accuracy and completeness.
f. Advising and assisting in formulating test plans and schedules for testing at AFRL/RWWS facilities.
g. Coordinate modeling and simulation and test activities, to include safety reviews and hazard review meetings.
h. Prepare Commercial Test Agreements (CTA), and Cooperative Research and Development Agreements (CRADA) between AFRL/RWWS and industry partners.
A Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field plus 15 years of relevant experience is required. In-depth knowledge of and experience with Active Electro-Optical (EO) and Infrared (IR) seeker/sensor technology is required. An understanding of sound engineering principles is required.
Applicants must have highly developed interpersonal skills to interact with senior levels of government and senior management of industry prime contractors. Experience with mathematical modeling tools and MS Office applications is highly desired. Applicants must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
