Torch is currently seeking to fill the following position:
Electrical/Electronics/General Engineer (AFRL/RWWI)
The successful candidate will work independently on the Autonomous Target Recognition (ATR) team within the Integrated Sensing and Processing Sciences Branch of the Munitions Directorate. He/she will perform design, development, integration, test, evaluation, maintenance and troubleshooting of experimental sensor systems to include Electro-Optical (EO)/Infrared (IR), Radio Frequency (RF) sensors and Laser devices. Data acquisition and real-time or offline processing and analysis of the sensor data is integral to the performance of this position as well. Integration of experimental systems will include interfacing of analog and digital data ports, real-time programming of software and firmware, development of control software for various hardware modules, and specification of hardware and development tools.
The candidate will perform research activities related to ATR for munitions systems. Responsibilities will include development and execution of customer demonstrations and participation in documentation of activities and presentation of results. The successful candidate will perform routine and recurring assignments, provide information and assistance to customers, and evaluate established methods and procedures to recommend changes in methods and practices where appropriate, and other duties as assigned. Some data collection and other activities require moderately strenuous exertion such as climbing stairs, carrying cameras, sensors, tripods, laptops, and other lightweight test/computer equipment. The successful candidate will ensure the application of appropriate security measures to all assignments.
A Bachelor’s degree or a Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Mathematics with 3 to 10 years’ experience is required.
Experience in a high level programming language is required (for example, C, Matlab).
A working knowledge of standard office software such as Microsoft Office is required.
Ability to communicate effectively in the English language both verbally and in writing is required.
Real-time and embedded hardware and firmware development is highly desired.
Experience in Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) development is desired (for example VHDL or Verilog).
Experience in cutting-edge ATR technologies and algorithms such as image analysis, pattern recognition, machine learning, object detection/recognition, and target tracking is a plus.
Experience with algorithms and tools such as Caffe, Torch TensorFlow, MATLAB machine learning, or other convolutional neural networks or deep learning software package is a plus.
Position requires that candidate must possess a current SECRET security clearance in order to access classified information. Inability to maintain a SECRET security clearance will result in candidate being ineligible for this position.
Position is located at Eglin AFB in Florida.
