Senior Level Mechanical/Aerospace Engineer – Air to Air Missile Programs

This position supports the Air Force Research Laboratory, Munitions Directorate Capability Concept Integration and management (AFRL/RWPI) Branch and is resident at Eglin AFB, Florida. The successful candidate will support a high visibility A-A Missile program. The successful candidate will be the primary technical support to the Government Program Manager/Engineer for guiding prime contractor component technology development, identifying technical gaps in industry approaches, and recommending investments in research and technology development. All subsystems are to be investigated, however, focus may be on propulsion, ordnance, and guidance/airframe.

Responsibilities include the following (not an all-inclusive list):


  1. Providing information on current A-A missile systems and component technologies and capabilities.


  2. Assist in defining technical performance measures.


  3. Perform manual engagement analysis and guide more detailed digital analysis


  4. Review industry concepts, designs, plans, and component technology development for soundness of approach, gaps, and opportunities for insertion of advanced technologies.


  5. Perform independent analysis of industry generated data and highlight issues or concerns.


  6. Review government and contractor test plans for completeness, requirements traceability and compliance with standards, note technical risks and recommend risk mitigation strategies. Coordinate and observe testing and perform data reduction and analysis where appropriate.


  7. Maintain a pro-active approach to analysis and assessment of technologies.


  8. Develop and maintain documentation of technology trades.


  9. Develop and present program briefing slides, letters and reports. Assist and participate in technical working groups, technical reviews, design reviews, and technical interchange meetings and provide recommendations.


Qualified candidates must have a comprehensive knowledge of A-A missiles, their component technologies, and the application of new/advanced technology. A minimum of a Master’s Degree and 10 years of relevant experience is required. It is desired that qualified candidates have the ability to perform engagement analysis, either with digital tools or hand calculations. Familiarity and experience with DoD conventional munitions research and development is highly desired, either from a government or industry perspective.

Applicants must have highly developed interpersonal skills to interact with senior levels of government and senior management of industry prime contractors. Experience using MS Office applications is highly desired. Applicants must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

This position requires that candidates have a current TOP SECRET security clearance in order to access classified information. Initial entry with SECRET clearance is acceptable, as long as the candidate can meet the requirements for a TOP SECRET clearance. Inability to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET security clearance will result in a candidate being ineligible for this position.
