Technical Writer and Illustrator (Full-time)

Huntsville, AL

Torch Technologies is currently seeking an experienced, senior-level Technical Writer with excellent graphical illustration skills to work on location with our Technical Manual Rewrite (TMR) Team at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama.

The TMR Team researches and documents complex aviation maintenance activities that ensure continued airworthiness of the Army Aviation fleet. Candidates must have a thorough understanding of industrial, depot-level repair and modification workflow, possess demonstrated expertise in modern software-based publications development, and have the ability to immediately contribute to a highly-collaborative, fast-paced, high-demand Government/contractor team.

Duties involve generating or updating aviation technical publications based on customer requirements, with minimal supervision. The candidate must be able to format technical documents to extremely detailed military publications standards within a specified project timeline. Routine activities will include, but not be limited to, researching technical data from multiple sources, writing procedures for use by civilian artisans and military maintainers, producing detailed and accurate technical illustrations, and conducting meetings with a variety of customers and stakeholders.

Successful candidates will possess a minimum H.S. + 7 years or B.S/B.A. + 3 years of experience with applicable military aviation publication specifications, Army aircraft nomenclature, and maintenance procedures.

Expertise in PTC IsoDraw, Adobe Illustrator, and/or AutoTrol Technical Illustrator are requirements for this position, along with proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat Professional. Candidates must possess excellent writing skills, with an ability to interpret engineering drawings and translate requirements into usable technical instructions/procedures. Must have extensive experience with U.S. Army ETMs (Electronic Technical Manuals), IETMs (Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals), and Military Standards such as MIL-STD-40051, MIL-STD-38784, and MIL-HDBK-1222.

Recent work portfolio must demonstrate fluency in interpreting engineering drawings and translating all related requirements/warning/cautions/notes into safe, executable technical instructions/procedures for use at unit, intermediate, and/or depot-level maintenance activities.

Position requires that candidate possess a current security clearance in order to access classified information. Inability to maintain a security clearance will result in candidate being ineligible for this position.
