Nuclear Certification Subject Matter Expert (Part-time)

Nuclear Certification Subject Matter Expert (SME)

Responsibilities:
DOD and USAF directives for nuclear weapons and nuclear weapon systems require that all procedures, personnel, equipment, facilities and organizations shall be nuclear certified. This position, which provides technical and management advisory services support to the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) Surety and Certification Division (NTS) is resident at Kirtland AFB, Albuquerque, NM.

The successful candidate will be directly responsible for providing related strategic advice, technical guidance and expertise to Air Force and AFNWC program and project staff as a recognized expert regarding the Air Force nuclear certification process. Support includes the development of Certification Requirements Plans (CRPs) for nuclear-capable delivery aircraft, cruise missiles, ICBMs, nuclear related facilities and support equipment. This includes monitoring the completion of CRPs by the responsible agencies while providing guidance on nuclear weapon system certification requirements with respect to all related systems; and, developing requirements from program inception throughout their life cycle for these extremely complex programs. The focus of this position will be related to the development of unique nuclear certification CRPs and related tasks for air-breathing nuclear weapon delivery systems such as the B-52H, B-2A, B-21, F-15E, F-16A/B/C/D, F-35A and PA-200 aircraft; the AGM-86B Air Launched Cruise Missile (ALCM) and Long Range Standoff (LRSO, W80-4); related support equipment; ICBM systems (Minuteman III and Ground-Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD)); and nuclear Weapon Maintenance and Storage Facilities (WSMFs). The successful candidate will provide evaluation and recommendations for improvements, optimization development, and/or maintenance efforts for AFNWC mission critical challenges/issues regarding nuclear certification.

Qualifications: 
A BS/BA degree is required with at least 20 years total experience. At least 10 years of experience within the Air Force nuclear enterprise is desired related to nuclear weapon and nuclear weapon systems nuclear certification. Familiarity with the Air Force Nuclear Certification Process, CRPs and related DOD nuclear certification guidance is required. Familiarity with Joint DOD-DOE programs for life-cycle management of nuclear weapons is required. Applicants should have highly developed interpersonal skills permitting productive interaction with technical and non-technical professionals at all levels. Applicants must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
Applicants must possess, or be able to rapidly obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DOD) SECRET security clearance. A TOP SECRET clearance is desired.
